October 2026 HYSA Snapshot: 4.25% Highest Non-Promo APY
- Pibank lists the highest base APY in this eight-account panel at 4.25%, with no minimum deposit or monthly fee shown on its product page as of 2026-09-29.
- EverBank lists 4.20% for new accounts as of 2026-10-09, just 0.05 percentage points below Pibank; on a constant $20,000 balance, that rate gap is about $10 over one year if both APYs stay unchanged.
- Several rates depend on eligibility or account type: SoFi requires qualifying activity for 3.30%, and Wealthfront Cash is a brokerage cash account rather than a bank savings account. Varo’s official 3.75% tier is dated July 1, so recheck it before treating it as a current quote.
- A 4.25% APY on a constant $20,000 balance would produce about $850 in one year if the APY remained unchanged and interest were retained; variable rates can change, so this is an illustration rather than a forecast.
Rates in this snapshot
This is a comparison of eight products in Snowballr’s tracked panel, not a ranking of every savings account in the market. We use the standard or stated qualifying rate shown in each provider’s cited disclosure and exclude temporary referral, subscription, and introductory boosts from the panel high. Source dates differ, and every APY is variable unless the provider says otherwise. Varo’s cited 3.75% tier was stated as accurate on July 1; its row is included for panel continuity, not as a confirmed October quote.

How to read the differences
A small APY difference can translate into a small dollar difference: 0.05 percentage points on $20,000 is $10 over a year before taxes, assuming both rates stay unchanged. Eligibility, minimums, withdrawal access, account ownership structure, and the chance that a variable APY changes may matter more than that narrow spread.
The examples use the quoted APY as an effective annual rate. The $850 illustration is $20,000 × 4.25%; it assumes a constant balance and rate for a full year and does not account for taxes, fees, or a rate change. Actual interest depends on the provider’s daily balance and compounding rules.
What to verify before opening an account
Check the provider’s current account agreement and rate disclosure for APY, qualification requirements, minimum balance, fees, withdrawal rules, and any balance cap. Confirm which legal bank holds deposits and what deposit-insurance coverage applies to your ownership category. A rate snapshot cannot establish the terms for an individual applicant.
