How we evaluated

We ran the same scenario through all 8 calculators: $400,000 home, 20% down, 30-year fixed at 6.5% APR with $200/month extra payment. We checked whether each tool gave the same monthly P&I ($2,022.62), showed accurate total interest saved from extra payments, and how easy it was to understand the output. Tools that gated features behind email forms lost points. Tools that pushed loan lead-gen aggressively over education lost points. Tools with embedding, URL sharing, or amortization downloads gained points for utility.

Verdict

For day-to-day mortgage math without sign-up friction, Snowballr leads on visualization and shareability. For getting today's actual lender rates, Bankrate remains the gold standard but with substantial ad weight. For an integrated home-search → mortgage flow, Zillow is unmatched. If you plan to actually apply for a loan after calculating, skip directly to Rocket Mortgage to avoid duplicated data entry.
